About TCE

        Sulaimani Technical College was established by a decision of the Council of Ministers No. (205) in 18th November 2003. Technical College of Engineering at that time, consists only of one department (Mechanical Engineering/ Welding Technology). In 2004, the department of Urban and City Planning Engineering was opened.

Academic Departments​

  The aim of the department is to provide experts in the field of mechanics and manufacturing for both the public and private sectors in Kurdistan. The Department of Mechanical and manufacturing Engineering has an important role in the region because it is dedicated to introducing graduates to new technologies in the fields of manufacturing in various ways and delivery to users and installation and operation of all mechanical equipment that is widely used daily in homes, markets and factories, then how to repair them in case of problems or breakages.

    The department was Established in 2004-2005, as the Sulaimani Technical College, which later became one of the main colleges of the Sulaimani Polytechnic University. It opened doors to students to join the department in 2004-2005. So far, more than 600 students have graduated. There is still a strong relationship between students who have completed their studies. Another part of the students is continuing their higher education as master’s students. Our department continues to consult with students who intend to complete master and doctorate studies abroad.

   Department of Communication Engineering – part of Technical College of Engineering in Sulaimani Polytechnic University, was founded in (2005-2006). In the early years, students attended their courses in the buildings of Technical Institute of Sulaimani (TIS) before moving into the new campus in (2007) which is located in Chwar Chra district.

   In Kurdistan region, as the Petroleum industry has been boasting in the last decade, an increased demand for local qualified staff to be a solid base in the growing technical field was the reason behind the establishment of the department in 2016-2017. It is considered a pioneer department in Iraq, where it keeps pace with the development of oil and gas industries and renewable energy. It has been training capable engineering undergraduates since its foundation with improved curricula comparable to those offered by leading developed departments where it complies with the standards of the European Bologna system. The number of students in the current academic year (2023-2024) is about 150 students.

The Department of Electrical Power Engineering was founded in 2018 as one of the fifth engineering departments of the Technical College of Engineering \ Sulaimani Polytechnic University, offering education at the highest standards to its students. Our mission is to serve society through excellence in education, research, and public service. We aspire to instill in our students the attitudes, values, and vision that will prepare them for professionalism and lifelong learning. We strive to generate new knowledge and technology and aim to educate our graduates for following technological and theoretical developments, and use them to serve the society. We have set our main objective to be one of the best educational institutions in the geographical area that covers Kurdistan and Iraq.

Programs

 The duration of undergraduate study is four years (8 semesters) in all the departments of the technical college of engineering.   The courses (Modules) will be specified by the departments during each semester (Fall Semester and Spring Semester).  Usually, the Fall semester starts in September and the spring semester starts in January.

Postgraduate education involves learning and studying for degrees or other qualifications for which a first or Bachelor’s degree generally is required, and is normally considered to be part of tertiary or higher education. Master’s degrees consist of both taught and research elements. PhD also consist of both taught and research elements and take three or more years.
