        Garden design department is the only department of Kurdistan region and Iraq, which consists of two main sciences. The first science is botany, which is the science and art that studies developing majority of plant, considering way of the reaction with nature and surroundings (earth, water, air). The second science includes art designing, processing and planning, shape of public area, parks, private garden, school gardens, closed gardens to be suitable with city and rural environments.

Mission:

The Mission of the Department is to prepare students, and professionals in the field of planning, designing, installing, and managing parks, gardens, and public and specific outdoors, by discovering new knowledge and innovations pursuant to academic and scientific research basics relating to garden and landscape design.

Vision:
  1. Understand the various areas of botany.
  2. Establish a link between Teaching / Research institutions, public and private sectors.
  3. Gain theoretical knowledge about the basic fundamentals concerning Botany & Landscape design.
  4. Acquire knowledge of science as it applies in practice.
  5. Design and implement it in a range of sites and scales.
  6. Design and solve a landscape problem from the first steps of determination, the site analysis, then the formation of concept and gradually evolving the design, and finally to reach the overall design.
  7. Have a better knowledge of details in Garden Design concerning non-living parts (walkways, seat areas, pergolas) and living parts (Trees, shrubs, bushes, flowers, grass).
Goals and Objectives:

Upon successful completion of the nursing department:

  1. Students will be able to use some computer programs such us AutoCAD and landscape design.
  2. Students will be able to design a garden.
  3. Students will be able to install landscape plants.
  4. Students will demonstrate employability skills in the landscape field.
  5. Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the fundamental design methodologies in landscape design at appropriate scales.
  6. Develop creative design proposals by demonstrating an essential understanding of topography, hydrology, plant material، land use and context.
  7. Students will be able to manage and maintain the project in both fields.
Degree and duration of the study:

This program of study is based on the Bologna process which is a European credit transfer system (ECTS) and in this proses the student must earn 120 credits during two years of study in order to fulfill the requirement of the diploma program. Before the beginning of each semester, the student will be provided with the orientation course.
