Technical Media Department announced Lectures Campaign: The Misuse of Smart Phones and iPads Among Children

As part of the Media lecture campaign  on November 2, 2025, the 2nd graders student from the Technical Media Department, technical College of Adminstration conducted a series of educational seminars at public school (Blesa Primary School). These seminars were organized under the supervision of Sulaimani polytechnic University academic staff, Shahen Karim

The purpose of the event was to educate young students about the misuse of modern technology, particularly smart phones and iPads, and to promote healthier and more responsible media habits among children. The seminars were delivered by three students, Hanar OmidAvesta Osman, and Helen Khalid and the sessions were presented to fifth- and sixth-grade students at Blesa Primary School.

Throughout the presentations, the speakers addressed several key points:

  1. Health Impacts:
    They explained how excessive screen time can affect children’seyesightposture, and sleep quality, and may contribute to reduced physical activity.
  2. Psychological and Social Effects:
    The seminars highlighted the negative influence of mobile device overuse onconcentrationacademic performance, and face to face communication skills.
  3. Responsible Usage:
    The students provided practical suggestions for using technology wisely such as setting screen time limits, avoiding electronic devices before bedtime, and using media for educational purposes rather than entertainment only.

The sessions encouraged open discussion, allowing the young attendees to share their own experiences with mobile devices. The seminar successfully raised awareness among the students about the health, social, and psychological risksassociated with the misuse of mobile phones and iPads. It also emphasized the importance of balanced and mindful media use. Through this activity, the Technical Media Department students demonstrated their ability to apply classroom knowledge to real life educational outreach, showing commitment to social responsibility and constructive media engagement.
