SPU Sport

At Sulaimani Polytechnic University, we believe that sports play a vital role in developing both physical fitness and teamwork skills. Alongside our academic programs, we actively encourage students and staff to participate in a wide range of sporting activities that promote health, cooperation, and university spirit.

Facilities

SPU provides modern and accessible sports facilities across its colleges and institutes.
Each campus is equipped with at least one football pitch or tennis and basketball court.
In addition, students have access to spaces for table tennis, chess, and other recreational games. These facilities are open to all students and staff, ensuring an inclusive and active university environment.

Sharing Facility With Community 

Sulaimani Polytechnic University encourages community collaboration by allowing public use of its sports facilities upon request and with the approval of the Department Service Unit at each college or institute without any fee. This policy ensures that facility use is well-coordinated, safe, and aligned with the university’s academic and operational schedules. The Department Service Unit reviews each request based on availability, purpose, and compliance with university regulations. By sharing its resources responsibly, SPU promotes health, inclusion, and partnership within the community. 

Sports Activities and Competitions

Every academic year, the Directorate of Students’ Affairs organizes university-wide sports events and tournaments, including:

• Inter-college football championships

• Table tennis tournaments

• Chess competitions

• Fitness and athletics events

These competitions not only strengthen relationships among students but also build teamwork, leadership, and respect.

Achievements

SPU teams have represented the university in regional tournaments and friendly matches with other universities in the Kurdistan Region. Many of our students have achieved excellent results and contributed to building a proud sports culture at SPU.
