SPU Academic Speaks and Participates In a Scientific Panel
Dr. Rozhen Kamal Mohammed-Amin from SPU was recently invited to speak at the “History and Architectural Heritage of Sulaimani” panel held at the University of Sulaimani (UoS). The panel aimed at promoting and bringing awareness to the rich architectural heritage of the city of Sulaimani and discussing methods and techniques for documenting and preserving it.
In her talk “Beyond Physical Preservation: Digitizing Architectural Heritage in Kurdistan”, Dr. Rozhen discussed different uses of state-of-art digital technologies for digitally documenting, preserving, and presenting historic and heritage sites and buildings. As part of her speech, she presented some of the international projects that she had worked on previously. Given the novelty of these projects to Kurdistan Region, Dr. Rozhen received several requests from the attendees for giving more talks and pursuing related projects in Kurdistan Region.
The panel included talks from other academics and experts in the field including Dr. Kozad Mohamed Ahmed (the head of Archaeology Department at Uof), Mr. Abdul Raqeeb Yousif (a prominent cultural heritage advocate and archaeologist, and Mr. Hashm Hama (the Director of Sulaimani Museum).
The forum was jointly organized by UoS’s Archaeology and Social Sciences Departments and attracted a large number of guests.
Dr.Rozhen Kamal Mohammed-Amin is a lecturer at SPU’s City Planning Department. She holds a BSc. in Architectural Engineering from the University of Sulaimani and MSc. and PhD degrees in Environmental Design from the University of Calgary in Canada. She is an active academic and scholar. She has published and spoke in a number of international conferences. During her studying abroad, she had received a number of awards and scholarships. She also has professional experiences as an architect and urban planner at the State Organization of Tourism and Directorate of Urban planning in the Ministry of Municipality and Tourism.
