IELC provides the following courses and services:
1.English Language Foundation
The aim of this English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course is to equip the first-year students of SPU in colleges and institutes with language, academic and study skills in university settings where English is the medium of instruction. The course, which is a university compulsory module, has been in operation since 2018.
2. Postgraduate Academic English
This module, which is offered to the SPU postgraduate students (MSc) in the first semester of their academic study, is delivered by the IELC over the course of 15 weeks. It encompasses language, study and academic skills such as essay structure with conventions, academic writing style, academic speaking skill, writing skills for research papers, peer reviewing, and ways to avoid plagiarism in writing.
3. English Language Proficiency
This course is run under the supervision of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research to equip the postgraduate candidates and academic-rank seekers with language and academic skills required for their success in academic settings.
4. International English Language Tests
IELTS is delivered in the International English Language Centre (IELC) under the administration and supervision of British Council-Iraq. IELTS examinations include Academic and General paper-based IELTS, Life Skills, and UKVI.
5. Proofreading Services
IELC offers proofreading services for SPU postgraduate students who write up their theses or dissertations in English language.
