The International English Language Centre (IELC) established in 2014. IELC is one of the most prominent and standout state language centers across Kurdistan Region of Iraq for offering a variety of good quality trainings and delivering exam services.
IELC is housed in a purpose-built facility including a well-equipped computer lab and well-equipped classrooms, as well as sufficient learning resources and enhanced audio-visual equipment.
Since its inception, IELC has offered a wide range of language training courses to academics, employees, and students from inside and outside Sulaimani Polytechnic University, thanks to its well-qualified tutors and efficient admin staff. Additionally, it offers English Language Proficiency courses to the postgraduate candidates and students who pursue their academic study as well as university instructors who seek to be awarded academic titles. Moreover, IELC offers in-sessional courses for postgraduate students in which they are provided with the academic and study skills that enable them to survive and succeed in their academic studies. IELC runs the university’s English Language Foundation Course, which aims at teaching the first-year undergraduate students studying in the SPU college and institutes. IELC is an authorized exam venue by British Council-Iraq for delivering paper-based IELTS examinations (such as standard IELTS, UKVI, Life Skills) in Sulaimani Governorate.
Mission
To provide English language learners with quality education and training services that arm them with real-life skills. It also enables English language learners to develop their communicative competencies and make rewarding contributions to their communities.

IELC seeks to provide life-changing opportunities for English language learners, inside and outside SPU to realize brighter futures for themselves and their communicates.
Objectives
IELC is founded to fulfil several aims including:
- To offer English Language courses to academics, employees, and students from inside and outside the Sulaimani Polytechnic University.
- To teach English Language and acquaint learners with the language skills (i.e., Speaking, Listening, Writing, Reading, Grammar).
- To design the tailor-made English language courses for speakers of other languages.
- To undertake intensive courses in training students and researchers on research methodology and providing them with academic and linguistic excellence that will enable them to generate academic essays effectively.
- To seek for fruitful collaborations with both domestic and international language institutions on areas of mutual interests.
