Sulaimani Polytechnic University (SPU) has Launched a 16-day Campaign to Combat Violence Against Women

On Monday, November 25, 2024, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hoshyar Abdullah Aziz, President of Sulaimani Polytechnic University, the first activity of a campaign to combat violence against women was organized in Piramird Hall. The event was held under the slogan “Women are the Real Engineers of Building Life,” and was coordinated by the Directorate of Information and Activities in collaboration with the Center for Gender Equality.

Prof. Dr. Ali Qadir, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Bakhtiar Obaid Sharif, Vice President for Student Affairs, were also present at the event.

After a moment of silence for the victims of violence against women, Asst. Prof. Dr. Bakhtiar Obaid Sharif delivered a speech in which he expressed his gratitude to the university for supporting all women who stand against violence. He emphasized the importance of striving to eradicate violence and highlighted that most of the university’s composition, both in terms of students and employees, is female, with women playing a prominent role in serving the university.

Later, Dr. Dilpak Tahir, Director of the Gender Equality Directorate, delivered a speech about women in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. She urged women to remain vigilant in order to avoid facing violence and called on them to support each other, emphasizing the importance of not being the cause of violence among themselves.

She also mentioned that Sulaimani Polytechnic University is currently a member of the board of the campaign to combat violence against women in Sulaimani province, thanks to the support of the university’s president for women’s rights.

Finally, in celebration of the 16-day campaign against violence against women, flowers were presented to all the women working at the Presidency of Sulaimani Polytechnic University.
