Sulaimani Polytechnic University organized a workshop entitled Sulaimani Resilience Planning to provide better services for the,Refugees , Internal Displaced People as well as the Host Community.
Sulaimani Polytechnic University in response to the request of the Sulaimani Governorate and their support, and in coordination with the UNDP and their financial, technical Support organized a workshop at the Shari Jwan Hotel, the workshop entitled (Sulaimani Resilience Planning),and the aim was to to reduce the expansion of the financial crisis that led to a decline in the provision of primary services for both host community and the camps of the refugees and IDPs. The workshop was attended by the president of the SPU, assist prof.Dr Alan Faraidun, representative of the governorate of Sulaimani and the JCCC, and all the international and local non-governmental organizations as well as representatives of the Directorates of the government.
Dr.Alan stated, we as SPU are glad to organize any kind of workshop that service the scientific field of life or increase the quality of services of the people, we are ready to cooperate with any side who present services to our community, and we believe that the KRG should depend on the scientific and academic centers that makes universities and institutes accredited important part of the discussions and cooperation in all fields of planning, decision-making and monitoring the quality of services, I think university should have greater role in the Research and Devlopment,we should have the same role of the companies, organizations ,private sectors in planning ,putting programs, designing, engineering and technical works, we are aiming at turning the role of the universities to be an academic governmental & scientific center ,it will be also an opportunity to provide job opportunities for the
students, the aim of the workshop was convergence of views and exchanging ideas among the attendees of the work shop and to point out the gaps and the shortages in some fields of services, for the refugees , IDPs and the host community ,besides specifying the projects that are needed for the host community and has been suspended because of the financial crises and prioritizing them, the projects that should be implemented in Sulaimani,Garmian and Raparin,besides they have presented statistics on quantity of the services needed for the people and classified the required and suggested projects, at the end of the workshop the attendees reviewed the proposed projects and presented their point of views and ideas on the projects and their prioritizing and classification.
It is worth mentioning that this workshop has been organized by a committee headed by the SPU, in respone for the request of the Sulaimani Governorate,SPU has prepared a proposal and asked for a fund from UNDP to organize this important workshop,and the committee headed by Dr.Rozhin Kamal, AND members included Lizan kamal,Lanja Shahab and Shava Shirwan from the SPU, and Taban Jamal from the governorate of Sulaimani, Ari Taha (UNDP ) and Prshing Ibrahi form JCCC.
