Sulaimani Polytechnic University plans to develop oil engineering department with the help of British, Iraqi and Kurdistan experiences
Sulaimani Polytechnic University, announced its intention to develop an oil engineering college next year, to contribute to the insurance needs of local and global companies working to maintain the region in the field of oil and gas industries, indicating that it entered into several agreements with British and Iraqi and Kurdish parties to take advantage of their expertise in this regard.
SPU vice president for scientific affairs Dr.Soran Saeed , said that the university plans to ” develop a technical college dealing with oil and gas industries of the next academic year 2016- 2017 , in the city of Sulaimaniya , a contribution to keep pace with the development of oil and gas industries in the Kurdistan region in general , and Sulaimanyah in particular , securing the labor market needs of qualified people, and opening of new prospects for its members and alumni , he added that the Ministry of Higher Education and scientific research of the KRG, ” authorized affiliate universities to open new sections and colleges .
Dr.Saeed added that Sulaymaniyah Technical University has been preparing to develop its oil technical college for three years through providing qualified lecturers , and providing of necessary equipments for the laboratories, “noting that ” number of cooperation agreements concluded for this matter with the British universities as well as petroleum technology department at the University of Technology in Baghdad , Basra and the University of oil and gas , to take advantage of their expertise in the establishment of the new college to be able to carry out their duties as required .
he also stated that the university ” agreed with the Krdistan Research Commission to take advantage of the advanced laboratories to support the new faculty ,” pointing out that the technical and vocational training and university’s job opportunity’s section ” coordinated with the oil companies operating in Sulaimaniya, to determine their needs of scientific and technical staffs and lay the foundations for mutual cooperation with them in the framework of preparations for the development of oil technical college . ”
According to Said , Sulaymaniyah governorate , ” contains numerous oil refineries and local and international companies operating in the oil and gas industries , which could be used in the training of new cadres and college students , to be eligible to work in the future .”
He also said that the university “has recently participated in a roundtable organized by the British Council in Dubai, United Arab Emirates City, with the participation of British and Iraqi universities, to discuss ways to upgrade the skills of cadres working in the Iraqi oil and gas industries and the development of colleges concerned with this specialty,” stressing that the university ” invested occasion to build bridges of cooperation with the specialized British universities to benefit from the academic expertise in creating new college requirements and curriculum about kept pace with global technological developments, as well as an agreement with them on the training of teaching staffs, particularly in the field of control systems and management of specialized oil and gas industries project engineering.
