SPU Continues to Conduct IELTS Tests for English Proficiency
The International English Language Center at Sulaimani Polytechnic University SPU announced the continuation of the IELTS tests in cooperation with the British Council in the Kurdistan Region in 2018.
The center’s director, Hoger Mohammed Tawfiq, said that on December 9, 2017, the IELTS test of English proficiency for 113 candidates after an involuntary stopover over the past two months has been repeated for reasons beyond its control with the British Consulate in the Kurdistan Region and said that the center will continue testing in 2018 indicating that those who wish to apply can visit the official website of the British Council to see the schedule of tests or through visiting the center.
Mr.Hoger explained that the British Consulate in the Kurdistan Region has responded positively to the efforts of the university presidency and the management of the center on overcoming the obstacles to the resumption of testing in the SPU, he added that the center wants to reflect the SPU interest of the quality performance and service to those who wish to develop their English language and continue their higher education.
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Regional Government, Dr. Yousif Goran, announced on July 11, 2016, that Sulaimani Polytechnic University conduct the IELTS test in cooperation with the British Council, and that this is a qualitative addition to the city of Sulaimani the capital of culture in the region .
On November 15, 2015, the SPU announced the signing of an agreement with the British Council, which is part of the consolidation of the historical relations between the two friendly people. It includes strengthening the fields of joint scientific and cultural cooperation to be qualified for the IELTS World Test in the governorates of Sulaimani, Halabja, as well as Garmian and Raparin areas.
There are only two IELTS testing centers in Iraq, one in Baghdad and the other in Erbil. The English Language Center at Sulaimani Polytechnic University is the third of its kind in Iraq and the second is in the Kurdistan Region.
IELTS is an international system for measuring English proficiency. It is designed to measure the ability of a person to use English in his / her environment as a communication tool. It is one of the most famous English tests in the world. There are more than 9000 universities and institutions that accept results in more than 135 countries around the world, the number of IELTS users for work or study is more than two million and 200,000 people annually.
