This policy aims to:

1. Ensure that everyone is aware of their rights and obligations; safeguard all employees, visitors, and workers in university premises from the negative effects of secondhand tobacco smoke; and make that the university complies with applicable laws.
2. This policy recognizes that second-hand smoke adversely affects the health of all employees and is therefore concerned about where people smoke and the effect this has on other employees and members of the public.

This policy has been created to ensure that the University complies with current legislation of The Kurdistan parliament which banned smoking in public places in 2007.

All buildings and outdoor areas designated as part of the campus are subject to the university trust’s smoke-free policy. The ban will not apply to staff members who are the sole occupants of a university residential residence connected to their employment.
