The electrical techniques Department is one of Chamchamal Technical Institution CTI departments that belong to Sulaimani Polytechnic University SPU, located in Chamchamal District in Sulaimani governorate. Students within two years of study are taught the basic fundamentals of electrical circuit science, maintaining and assembling electrical equipment in order to be prepared to hold a technical diploma certificate in the electrical field.

Chamchamal Technical Institution CTI was established back in (2000/2001) and the Electrical techniques department was one of the departments that existed at the beginning. Since the first day, it has received high school graduate students from the scientific department and the top of the industrial department (electrical Dep.). Applying to the course was direct.

In order to move on with the development in electrical technology, the market needs, and the education program developing, the Electrical Dep. was changed by a university official order letter in (2016/2017) from (power) specialty to (electrical installation) specialty.

Since its establishment, the graduated students after finishing two years of study and practical training will get a Diploma graduation letter in the electrical field.

Vision:

The Department will provide programs of the highest quality to be a leader in electrical and electronics engineering education and training by producing globally competent graduates to excellence in Electrical Engineering and Technology professions.

Mission:

The goal behind opening such department is to develop a good cadre to work in electric field in all its specialties, starting with production of electricity and transmitting, later distributing the power, add to that maintaining all parts of this system. Also, at the same time identifying the students to different types of electrical equipment’s and machines that they use daily, how to use them, how they work and how to use the meters to identify malfunction in the broken machines in order to be fixed.

Outcomes:

Electrical Techniques introduce the student to the fundamental elements of electrical installations and focuses on building a working knowledge of electricity and electronics in relation to residential and commercial electrician applications. In addition, it facilitates the students’ career by giving them practical experience with regulations and practices, develop skills and competencies in electrical theory, network cabling, electrical system installation and electrical workplace safety.

Objectives:

At the end of the study, the students can:

  1. Assist in the interpretation and preparation of electrical drawings, including other related documents and graphics.
  2. Analyze and solve simple technical problems related to basic electrical systems by applying mathematics and science principles.
  3. Use and maintain test and instrumentation equipment.
  4. Assemble basic electrical circuits and equipment to fulfill requirements and specifications under the supervision of a qualified person.
  5. Assist in the installation and troubleshooting of basic electrical machines and associated control systems under the supervision of a qualified person.
  6. Assist in testing and troubleshooting electrical and electronic circuits, equipment and systems by using established procedures under the supervision of a qualified person.
  7. Assist in the troubleshooting of control systems under the supervision of a qualified person.
  8. Use computer skills and tools to solve basic electrical-related problems.
  9. Assist in conducting quality assurance procedures under the supervision of a qualified person.
  10. Assist in the preparation and maintenance of records and documentation systems.
  11. Install and assist in testing telecommunication systems under the supervision of a qualified person.
  12. Perform tasks in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, procedures, standards, regulations and ethical principles.
  13. Apply basic electrical cabling requirements, install and test system grounding for a specified number of applications under the supervision of a qualified person.
  14. Identify problems and troubleshoot electrical systems under the supervision of a qualified person.
  15. Assist in the selection of electrical equipment, systems and components to fulfill the requirements and specifications under the supervision of a qualified person.
