A Forum on the relations between Kurds and Armenian took place in SPU

With the slogan “University as a gate for developing the relation of nations”, and throughout the scientific and academic activitiesof Sulaimani Polytechnic University, an important forum on the historical relationships between the Kurds and the Armenianpeople was held on 29 September 2021.

The Directorate of International Relations in partnership with Aynda Research Center held a scientific forum for Professor Dr. Arshak Poladian, an Armenian historian and diplomat, and Dr. Hardi Mehdi, a Ph.D. holder in history. Prof. Dr. Alan Faraidun Ali Amin, the president of SPU, the Armenian Consul in theKRG, Dr. Khattab Shekhani, the representative of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the president of Cihan University in Sulaimaniyah, and a considerable number of attendees participated in the forum.

Prof. Dr. Alan Faraidun Ali Amin, the president of SPU welcomed the guests and expressed his happiness for holding a forum that has scientifically considered the historical relationship between the Kurdish and the Armenian people; he also mentioned the historical roots that exist between Kurdish and Armenian nations.

Then both Dr. Arshak Poladian and Dr. Hardi Mehdi presented their subjects to the audience and talked about the beginning of the relationships between both nations then how these relationships were affected by the foreign nations such as the Turks and the Persian in 1887.

Finally, they stated that more cooperative activities and conferences should be done to strengthen the relationships between each nation, as there are many joint topics, especially from historical, religious, social and political perspectives.
