An international workshop on “Activating Museums and Historic Sites with Augmented Reality Technology” took place.

On January 27th, 2021, the 5th international training workshop of the joint Digital cultural heritage (DCH)-the Nahrein Network “Digital Cultural Heritage” Training Program under the title “Activating Museums and Historic Sites with Augmented Reality Technology ” was held.

Over 168 participants from 37 different universities and government and non-government associations and organizations from a total of 8 countries (Iraq, Iran, United Kingdom, Burma, Italy, Turkey, Greece, and Philippines) attended the workshop, and locally participants attended from (Sulaymaniyah – Erbil – koya – Halabja – Kirkuk).

The one-and-a-half-hour workshop was presented by Dr. Rozhen Kamal Mohammed-Amin, Director of Digital Cultural Heritage Research Center and Lecturer at the City Planning Department at Sulaymaniyah Polytechnic University. During the workshop, Dr. Rozhen discussed the many ways that Augmented Reality can be used to preserve history. She also shared several of her works, including her PhD thesis.

The Nahrein Network is a collaborative international project between University College London (UCL), University of Oxford, Sulaimani Polytechnic University, and the University of Al-Qadisiyah. The Network is supported by an AHRC Global Challenges Research Fund grant from the UK government.
