Sulaimani Polytechnic University Expanding its Partnership with People’s Development Organization (PDO)
In order to connect the university with the community and facilitate collaboration with organisations, Sulaimani Polytechnic University, in the presence Asst. Prof. Dr. Sarhang Sarwat Hama, Vice President of Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies and a number of university directors and academic staff; A joint partnership was signed with People’s Organization for Development. According to the agreement, the organization will collaborate with Sulaimani Polytechnic University in the field of awareness of women, employees and female students. Both parties intend to contribute, to the implementation of the activities relevant to the project (Masarouna) which is an advocating young people’s rights to be aware of their Sexual reproductive health and rights (RH) in inclusive societies, funded by Oxfam Novib and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. The overall objective of this partnership is supporting young people’s advocacy to enjoy their RH in inclusive societies. The activities include conducting RH session to the students, age 15-35 in the schools and universities in the most relevant RH topics to their ages in Sulaymaniah, Raising awareness regarding RH topics among youth through both theoretical and physical activities with supervision by a coach. The awareness about knowing the body and reproductive part until the rights can be delivered. through practical activities, it can support their mental health, improving self-esteem and well-being in collaboration with physical education department. Round tables for youth who includes (male, female), this will bring report and narrative data from participant perspective about RH in their daily life.
Universities are the primary institutions for the dissemination of knowledge, through teaching, and for the generation of new knowledge, through research. These aspects make universities essential players in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Collaborating with these NG Organizations encourages universities to move towards SDGs and this partnership supports Goal 3 (SDG 3) which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all, at all ages.
