The (Times Higher Education) has Published an Impact Ranking and Sulaimani Polytechnic University is Ranked Fourth among Public Universities

On 12^th of June 2024, the Times Higher Education Foundation has announced an (Impact Ranking), and for the first time Sulaimani Polytechnic University participated and was able to record a good level, in which at the level of Iraqi universities, it is 62^nd, at the regional level it is 8^th, and at the level of public universities in the region, our university is ranked 4^th.

According to the impact ranking for 2024; (9) Public and private universities in the Kurdistan Region are in the ranking. Compared to 2023, only three universities in the Kurdistan Region were in this ranking.

In 2023, Sulaimani Polytechnic University provided the necessary data for this ranking, and it has made great progress in meeting the requirements of this ranking. On behalf of the Presidency of Sulaimani Polytechnic University, we congratulate all teachers, employees and students of our university for this progress.

What is meant by “Impact or Sustainability Ranking” in universities? 

The SDGs are a call for all countries (poor, rich and middle class) to promote welfare while protecting our planet and ending poverty. This must go hand in hand with strategic plans, build economic growth and address social needs; These include education, health, social protection and employment. At the same time, countries must address climate change and environmental protection.

The (17) goals known as the (SDGs) which are set by the United Nations for universities, are to determine the role of universities in serving society and humanity. For this purpose, universities should carry out a number of activities annually to serve these areas. The activities included in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by all UN members in 2015 created (17) Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which include:

1. Poverty Eradication (SDG 1)
2. End Hunger (SDG 2)
3. Providing good health and well-being (SDG 3)
4. Quality Education (SDG 4)
5. Gender Equality (SDG 5)
6. Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6)
7. Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7)
8. Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8)
9. Industrialization, Innovation and Infrastructure Development (SDG 9)
10. Reducing Inequality (SDG 10)
11. Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11)
12. Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12)
13. Responsibility for Climate (SDG 13)
14. Protect Underwater Life (SDG 14)
15. Protecting Life on Earth (SDG 15)
16. Provide peace, justice, and strong institutions (SDG 16)
17. Global partnerships to achieve the goals (SDG 17)

For the first time in 2023, Sulaimani Polytechnic University (SPU) has submitted the necessary data in this type of ranking which is called (Impact Ranking) and run by the institution (Times Higher Education).
