Sulaimani Polytechnic University Participates In the World Islamic Universities Conference in Turkey

Sulaimani Polytechnic University participated in the World Islamic Conference of Higher Education, which was held at the Presidential Palace in the Turkish capital of Ankara at the end of July 2017 to discuss ways of improving the status of higher learning and scientific research in the Islamic world and enhancing joint cooperation among its universities.

The SPU president, Dr.Alan Faraidoon said that the conference was organized by the Higher Turkish Council of Education at the presidential Palace in Ankara, from 26 to 27 July 2017, in the presence of Turkish President Rajab Tayib Ardogan to discuss the possibility of forming a higher education space for the Islamic world, he said that a delegation representing the universities of the Kurdistan Region attended the conference as well as the heads of 334 universities from 37 countries belonging to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and a group of specialized experts.

The president of the university said that President Ardogan stressed in his speech during the conference on the need for cooperation among Islamic countries in the field of higher education and scientific research to improve the learning and research in the Islamic world and its participation in the production of knowledge. He pointed out that the conference focused on supporting cooperation among universities in the Islamic world through exchanging experiences to promote the economic and social development of their countries.

Dr. Alan Faraidoon explained that the participants also discussed ways to enhance attention to the quality of higher education and the possibility of agreeing on a unified system for the adoption of laws governing the quality of academic programs and accreditation standards as well as the possibility of partnership between universities to award Dual Degrees or double certificates, The participants in the conference also discussed the issue of establishing a special system to evaluate and classify the performance of universities in Islamic countries. It adopts agreed bases and standards, achieves justice in the evaluation and the arrangement of universities, and encourages students to learn In addition to the language of the host countries, which widens the horizons of the student’s culture in the field of languages, and the establishment of a fund to support students and professors in the academic mobility among Islamic countries.

The President of the University said that the conference was a good occasion to meet with a group of participants and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation with them, including the Chairman of the Higher Education Council of Turkey, Yekta Siraj, and the Minister of Education of Turkey, Nabi Afji, as well as the meeting with the Ambassador of Iraq in Turkey, The university president also gave the Turkish minister and the Iraqi ambassador the shield of the Sulaimani Polytechnic University.

It is worth mentioning that the delegation of the Kurdistan Region included the heads of the universities of Salahaddin, Dr. Ahmed Dzayee, and Duhok, Dr. Musleh Dhuki, Zakho Dr. Lazgin Abdi, Dohuk Polytechnic, Dr. Adnan Abdul Aziz, and Kirkuk, Dr. Abbas Hassan.

Sulaimani Polytechnic University has concluded many memorandum of Understanding with the Turkish universities, including Yüzüncü Yıl, FIRAT, Bingöl and SIIRT, and that the President of the University, Dr. Alan Faraidoon, visited Turkey several times to discuss ways to enhance scientific and academic cooperation with the Kurdistan Region.
