An international online workshop is taking place

The Digital Cultural Heritage (DCH) Research Center is pleased to announce an international joint workshop of the #DCH-CHO-NN (Nahrein Network), Entitled “Digital transition of cities: new trends in urban planning”, the workshop is presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Valina Geropanta, Assistant Professor of Urban Planning and New Technologies at the Technical University of Crete, Faculty of Architecture.

* Nahrein Network, based at the University College London (UCL), is a collaborative international project between UCL, University of Oxford, Sulaimani Polytechnic University, Cultural Heritage Organization, the University of Al-Qadisiyah. Nahrein Network was previously funded by an AHRC GCRF from 2017 to 2021. But now are continuing their mission until 2031, funded by a generous philanthropic gift.

About the speaker:

Valina Geropanta is an Assistant Professor of Urban Planning and New Technologies at the Technical University of Crete, Faculty of Architecture. Her research interests are on the transformation of cities because of the contemporary global challenges, through the smart – intelligent city model. Her latest research focuses on ICT methodologies for making human settlements more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable while her latest book examines the field of Smart Cities and Machine Learning in Urban Health. She has participated in European research projects in capacity building in the field of Smart Tourism and Smart City, while she has been awarded grants for research and travel in Cambridge, India, Korea, Qatar, Vietnam, Peru, Italy, and Lebanon. She has published extensively on urban and architectural issues with ICT, smart cities, smart tourism, etc. and she is the co-editor of three books. In 2018 she founded Avrions, (www.avrions.com), a network that aims at raising awareness on the use of new technologies in contemporary cities and at creating a mechanism of knowledge distribution and exchange with the objective to fight digital divide.
