A Brief about the department:
The medical laboratory technology department is one of the sections of Sulaimani Technical Institute/ Sulaimani Polytechnic University/was established in 200-2001.
The programs of the department aim to prepare students to become Medical Laboratory Technicians and assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases by performing tests on various specimens e.g. tissue, blood, and other body fluids submitted to clinical laboratories as well as reporting and documenting medical investigations.
Some of the area in which medical lab technicians may specialize include:
-Microbiology
-Hematology
-Blood banking
-Immunology
-Clinical chemistry
-Histology
-Pathology
Students who finish their studies in two years will receive a diploma
(Laboratory assistant) in Medical Laboratory Technology, and be eligible to work in the ministry of Health and ministry of Higher education.
Types of works can be implemented by the graduates of this department:
Most medical lab technicians can be found working in hospitals, diagnostic laboratories or physicians’ offices .Other employment options for medical lab technicians are available with blood banks, medical equipment sales companies, research facilities, clinics, and public health organizations.
