You might ask yourself, “What exactly is city planning?” Simply put, city planning is the art of turning space into place. As a city planner, you will design and facilitate the development of livable communities in both small and larger urban areas. As communities continue to evolve through the development and population growth, instead of reacting to these changes, communities are choosing to control their own fate through planning. That’s where you come in. As a city planner, you can help communities chart their future growth by helping them prepare socioeconomic and physical design plans. These plans take into consideration the needs of community residents, and through those plans, communities are able to enhance their quality of life, preserve the physical and natural environment, and promote economic growth. As the department with the only accredited city planning programs in the Region of Kurdistan, our mission is to provide leadership in the education of planning professionals through hands-on, community-based reflective learning, and to promote innovation in planning practice.
