Sulaimani Polytechnic University Announces COIL Program Through International Relations Office

The COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) program is financially supported by the U.S. Department of State and scientifically supervised by The American Association of Colleges & Universities, J. Christopher Stevens Virtual Exchange Initiative, and Aspen Institute.

Notably, Sulaimani Polytechnic University is the only university in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq where has obtained the COIL program for this year.

The aim of this program is to facilitate cross-cultural dialogue, collaboratively address global challenges, develop digital communication skills, teamwork, and cross-cultural understanding. The program focuses on important areas such as (Civic Engagement, Language Learning and Practice, Digital Literacy Skill Development, and Empowering Women and Girls.)

In this program, a group of our university students will collaborate online with a group from a U.S. university on a project, provided that a team of faculty and staff from both universities supervise this process.

Therefore, any faculty member at Sulaimani Polytechnic University who wishes to participate in this program have to complete the form at the link below by August 7, 2025. The form requires the name of the proposed project and a brief summary of the project idea, taking into account new and contemporary topics to enhance the level of their students. Subsequently, all projects and ideas from faculty members will be submitted to the aforementioned organization, and one idea will be selected for a chosen group to begin the program.

Two previously completed projects are attached to this announcement for information and inspiration.

Note: After selecting a project, the organization will identify faculty and a group of students from a U.S. university to jointly start the program.

This program will last for one year, from September 1, 2025, to September 1, 2026, and participating faculty and students will be involved in the program for one or two semesters.

Benefits of the program:

  1. Participating faculty and staff will establish academic and scientific connections with specialists from American universities.
  2. During the program, several scientific resources and platforms will be made available to faculty and students to carry out their projects.
  3. In addition to becoming familiar with establishing scientific connections with international students, students can also explore job opportunities and collaborate with the opposing group.
