Nursing

The department was established in the 2017–2018 academic year and currently has approximately 420 male and female students across all study stages, following both the Bologna and annual systems. The department is supervised by around 58 professors and assistant lecturers who are responsible for its academic and administrative affairs. It provides intensive practical training in clinics and hospitals, in addition to teaching methods conducted in the college laboratories. Graduates earn a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Sciences.Nursing is considered one of the most important healthcare specialties because it offers employment opportunities and contributes to the development of the healthcare sector. It also provides services, monitors community health, and helps build a healthy and aware generation of pregnant women, older adults, and young people.Admission to this medical department is highly important each year, whether through the university admission track, the institute’s first system, or the parallel system. There is high demand for enrollment due to the department’s diverse specialties and the graduates’ ability to work in various medical fields.

Department Vision

  1. The vision of this department is to prepare nurses who work with integrity, compassion, and kindness in hospitals and communities, while striving to develop nursing centers that provide high-quality educational programs and encourage innovation to improve patient care.
  2. The department also aims to prepare nurses to provide preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative care for all age groups and conditions, enhance scientific supervision of students and graduates, and promote volunteerism, compassion, and kindness in hospitals and communities. It also seeks to improve human education and public health in society.

Duties

The Nursing Department at the Technical College of Health and Medical Sciences, Sulaimani Polytechnic University, makes significant efforts to provide comprehensive knowledge of all scientific and technical aspects of nursing to professional nurses. It aims to develop their ability to apply theory in practice, provide comprehensive nursing care, and contribute to prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and the rebuilding and enhancement of community health.

Department Requirements

The study program is based on the Bologna Process and the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). The program lasts four years and is taught in English. Students are required to complete summer training during the third year and conduct a research project related to nursing in the fourth (final) year.

Qualifications and Job Description

After passing the final examinations for each semester and completing 120 credit units during the study period, graduates receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Nursing, along with qualifications that enable them to work as nursing technicians in hospitals and medical centers.
