
A Golden Opportunity for Sulaimani Polytechnic University Students: Participate in the 5th Mediterranean Student Summit (MSS 2026) in Italy
The Directorate of International Relations at Sulaimani Polytechnic University (SPU) is pleased to announce an exceptional opportunity for five SPU students to participate in the 5th Mediterranean Student Summit (MSS 2026), to be held in Italy.
The Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED), in collaboration with the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) and with the support of the University of Urbino Carlo Bo, is organizing the fifth edition of the Mediterranean Student Summit. This international event aims to bring together students from both shores of the Mediterranean to foster intercultural dialogue and identify collective solutions to shared challenges.
Key Information:
• Location: University of Urbino Carlo Bo, Italy
• Dates: September 22–24, 2026
• Theme: The strategic role of students in promoting intercultural dialogue within the academic and social spheres of their universities, and their capacity to create inclusive academic environments through multifaceted participation
• Number of Participants: Approximately 30–35 students will be selected from UNIMED member universities
Program Phases:
The summit is not merely a three-day event; it consists of three mandatory phases that participants must commit to:
1. Pre-Summit: Three online training sessions will be held in July and September 2026 to prepare participants and familiarize them with the summit’s objectives.
2. The Summit: A three-day, in-person gathering in Urbino, Italy, featuring workshops and cultural activities.
3. Post-Summit: Two online sessions dedicated to drafting final recommendations and evaluating the program’s outcomes.
Eligibility and Application Criteria:
Interested students must meet the following requirements:
• Background: Applicants must be Erasmus+ alumni or active members of student organizations or civil society.
• Language Proficiency: English is the official language of the summit. Students must have a high level of proficiency. While a formal certificate is not required, applicants will undergo an online interview to assess their speaking and comprehension skills.
• Communication Skills: Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication and dialogue skills.
• Nomination Process: Students cannot apply directly to the organizers; they must be officially nominated by their university. SPU will nominate between 2 and 5 students.
Required Documents:
1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
2. Letter of commitment to participate in all phases of the program
3. Personal Reflection: A short essay (maximum two pages) in English discussing the student’s role in the internationalization of their university

4. Letter of support from the student department or college confirming current enrollment
Important Dates:
• Submission Deadline: All required documents must be submitted to the Directorate of International Relations via email at Relations@spu.edu.iq no later than April 29, 2026.
• Announcement of Final Results: Late June or early July 2026
