An international workshop Entitled “Digital transition of cities: new trends in urban planning” took place
On 19/01/2022, an international joint workshop of the #DCH-CHO-NN (Nahrein Network)
entitled, “Digital transition of cities: new trends in urban planning" took place.
Over 283 participants from 45 different universities and government and non-government
organizations from a total of 8 countries (Iraq, Algeria, United States of America, Aruba, Greece,
UK, Poland, and Tunisia). And locally in Iraq, participants attended the workshop from 14
different cities and Towns, including (Sulaimani, Erbil, Kirkuk, Halabja, Duhok, Mousl, Koya,
Darbandikhan, Kalar, Chamchamal, Khanaqin, Soran, Rawandiz, and Ranya).
The workshop was presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Valina Geropanta, Assistant Professor of Urban
Planning and New Technologies at the Technical University of Crete, Faculty of Architecture.
*The Nahrein Network, based at the University College London (UCL), is a collaborative
international project between UCL, University of Oxford, Sulaimani Polytechnic University,
Cultural Heritage Organization, and the University of Al-Qadisiyah. Nahrein Network was
previously funded by an AHRC GCRF from 2017 to 2021. But now are continuing their mission
until 2031, funded by a generous philanthropic gift.
