Under the patronage of Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and in the presence of presidents of public and private universities, vice presidents, advisors, directors general, and faculty members, a ceremony on the evaluation and development of scientific journals in the Kurdistan Region was held in Erbil on June 23, 2026.
Representing Sulaimani Polytechnic University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sarhang Sarwat Hama, Vice President for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education, attended the ceremony.
The event commenced with a speech by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. In his address, Dr. Aram Mohammed announced a significant academic milestone for Kurdistan’s universities, revealing that six scientific journals had been internationally registered and indexed. He described the achievement as a source of pride for the Kurdistan Region and a testament to the continuous advancement of scientific research. He also encouraged all universities to pursue greater international recognition and accreditation while remaining engaged with global academic developments.
The Minister then announced the six journals that achieved international recognition:
- Journal of Sulaimani Polytechnic University
- ARO Journal (Koya University)
- Journal of Salahaddin University – Erbil
- PASAR Journal (Garmian University)
- Journal of Erbil Polytechnic University
- Journal of the College of Dentistry (Hawler Medical University)
In conclusion, the Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s continued support for all universities in their efforts to enhance research quality and academic publishing.
Following the Minister’s address, Dr. Zhala Saeed Khatat, Director General of the Research and Development Office, presented an overview of the current status of university journals. She noted that 46 journals from universities across the Kurdistan Region underwent a rigorous evaluation process, including 23 scientific journals and 23 humanities journals.
The ceremony also featured several scientific panels and discussions that emphasized the importance of raising the quality of university journals and strengthening their integration into the global academic community.
