Director of International Relations at Sulaimani Polytechnic University Presents Scientific Panel at NAFSA 2026 Conference for the First Time in Kurdistan and Iraq
As part of the ongoing efforts of Sulaimani Polytechnic University (SPU) to internationalize the institution and provide opportunities for scientific exchange among students and faculty members, Assistant Professor Dr. Awder Mohammed Ahmed, Director of International Relations, along with a group of colleagues, presented a scientific panel at the globally renowned NAFSA 2026 Conference in Orlando. The panel was titled “Internationalization in the MENA Region: Policies, Practices, and Pathways Forward.”
The panel focused on recent developments in the vision and practice of university internationalization across the Middle East. Key topics included institutional strategies, regional priorities, the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education, and emerging strategic frameworks for collaboration with universities around the world.
During the session, Dr. Awder Mohammed highlighted both the opportunities and challenges that AI presents for the strategies and operations of international offices at universities. He shared several practical examples of how artificial intelligence tools can be used to enhance and expand educational opportunities and scientific exchange programs for students.
It is worth noting that only 30 percent of submitted proposals are accepted for presentation at the conference. This panel was among the selected projects and, due to the importance and relevance of the topic, attracted a large audience.
The NAFSA Conference is one of the largest and most prestigious global gatherings in the field of international education. This year, more than 8,000 participants from over 110 countries attended the event, which plays a significant role in shaping the future direction of higher education and international academic collaboration worldwide.
