
Sulaimani Polytechnic University Organizes Career Fair Offering 150 Job Opportunities for Students
Driven by a strong sense of responsibility toward its students and in line with its longstanding commitment to promoting employment opportunities, Sulaimani Polytechnic University (SPU), in partnership with Huawei, organized a specialized career event titled “Connecting Technological Talents.”
On May 18, 2026, under the direct patronage of Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Hoshyar Abdullah Aziz, President of Sulaimani Polytechnic University, the event was held at Nali Hall within the University Presidency. The ceremony was attended by the university’s vice presidents, the Deputy Governor of Sulaimani, presidents of several regional universities and institutes, faculty members, students, and media representatives.
The primary objective of the “Connecting Technological Talents” event was to support students and graduates by creating a direct connection between young talents and the labor market. Seventeen technology companies participated in the event, offering more than 150 job opportunities to students and graduates.
The proceedings commenced with a moment of silence in honor of the fallen heroes. This was followed by a joint speech on behalf of Sulaimani Polytechnic University and Huawei delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Bakhtiyar Obeid Sharif, Vice President for Student Affairs and Chairman of the Event Preparatory Committee. In his remarks, he stated:
“This is not merely a standard event; it is a vital platform for our youth and students to showcase their capabilities and build professional networks, serving as the first step toward shaping their future careers.”
He further emphasized:
“As an academic institution, it is our responsibility to provide an environment that supports the growth and development of our students and graduates. Such initiatives strengthen self-confidence, broaden perspectives, and enhance employment opportunities.”
Dr. Bakhtiyar Obeid Sharif also noted that SPU has consistently worked to implement modern practical education and establish partnerships with the private sector and international corporations to bridge the gap between students and the realities of the labor market. He concluded by expressing his gratitude to Huawei and all participating companies for their commitment to supporting young talents.
Following this, Dr. Jamal Ahmed, Director General of Post and Telecommunications, delivered a speech on behalf of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. He praised the university’s efforts, noting that SPU has become an important platform for collaboration between the private sector and various companies in creating employment opportunities for students.
In his address, Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, thanked Sulaimani Polytechnic University and Huawei for organizing the initiative. He stated:
“Universities should follow the example set by Sulaimani Polytechnic University by expanding their partnerships and collaborations with the private sector and private institutions, particularly under current circumstances. It is essential to develop new strategies while maintaining high standards of excellence.”
The Minister also expressed his appreciation for SPU’s distinguished position in university rankings both within Iraq and across the region.
The event continued with a seminar presented by Kurdo Shali, Recruitment Manager at Huawei, who highlighted the company’s programs and shared success stories of students who had secured employment with the organization. In addition, Dr. Zryan Najat Rashid discussed the role and academic objectives of the Huawei Academy at SPU, while Mr. Ayub Karim Saeed, Director of the Career Development Center (CDC), explained the center’s efforts in preparing students for the professional market.
The event concluded with attendees visiting the booths of participating companies, where students were able to submit their CVs directly to potential employers.
