Training, Employment Opportunities, and Raising Public Awareness of Green and Digital Transitions: Key Themes of the Meeting

Within the framework of the Green and Digital Economy Sector Council’s initiatives and following the recommendations of the President of Sulaymaniyah Polytechnic University (SPU), Prof. Dr. Hoshyar Abdullah Aziz, a meeting was held on April 30, 2026.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Ayub Karim Saeed, Director of the Career Development Center (CDC) at SPU and Deputy Chair of the Sulaymaniyah Green and Digital Economy Sector Council, alongside Dr. Issam Yusuf, an expert from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The session focused on the launch of the council’s activities and the pursuit of its core objectives. These objectives include aligning educational and training programs—such as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), university curricula, and vocational training—with the demands of the green and digital labor market. In addition, the council aims to strengthen partnerships with the private sector and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in order to identify required skills, provide training and employment opportunities, and raise public awareness about the transition toward a green and digital economy.

The discussions also addressed essential safety requirements, quality assurance measures, and relevant professional standards. The Green and Digital Economy Sector Council was established by UNESCO in partnership with the Career Development Centers of polytechnic universities, the Directorate of Vocational Education at the Ministry of Education, the Directorate of Vocational Training at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, and the Directorate of Statistics at the Ministry of Planning.

In conclusion, the Director of the CDC expressed the full readiness of Sulaymaniyah Polytechnic University to coordinate and support the successful implementation of the council’s upcoming initiatives.
