Today, Sunday, January 18, 2026, Prof. Dr. Hoshyar Abdullah Aziz, President of Sulaimani Polytechnic University (SPU), received Dr. Aram Qadir Muhammad, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The reception was attended by Prof. Dr. Ali Qadir Othman, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs; Asst. During the visit, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research held an official meeting with the university leadership. Discussions focused on the overall status of the university, its recent achievements, strategic initiatives, and future development plans, with particular emphasis on technical and vocational education and strengthening the link between academic institutions and the labor market.
A key highlight of the visit was the signing of a ministerial decree appointing Deans for three technical institutes in Sulaimani: the Sulaimani Medical Technical Institute, the Sulaimani Technical Institute of Technology, and the Sulaimani Technical Institute of Administration. This decision is considered a crucial step toward improved organizational restructuring, enhanced administrative performance, and the advancement of specialized technical education within the university.
Following the signing of the decree, the Minister extended his congratulations and appreciation to the University President, the newly appointed Deans, and the academic and administrative staff. He wished the Deans success in their new roles and emphasized that this step will provide a strong foundation for improving the quality of education and advancing scientific research in the Kurdistan Region.
It is noteworthy that, in accordance with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Decree No. (25415), issued on December 11, 2024, the Sulaimani Technical Institute was officially reorganized into three specialized institutes. This restructuring aligns with the specialized institute models in the city centers of Erbil and Duhok and reflects the Ministry’s strategy to modernize technical education and adapt it to labor market demands and socio-economic development.
In conclusion, the Presidency of Sulaimani Polytechnic University expressed its gratitude to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for his visit and continued support. The University reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining close cooperation and coordination with the Ministry to better serve students and further develop the higher education system in the Kurdistan Region.
