Joint Event of Future Innovators Held in Sulaymaniyah
Today, January 7, 2026, the city of Sulaymaniyah hosted a collaborative event titled “Innovators of the Future.” The initiative was jointly organized by Sulaymaniyah Polytechnic University, Cihan University–Sulaymaniyah, and the Kurdistan Students Association.
The event was attended by a distinguished delegation, including foreign ambassadors, members of the Iraqi and Kurdistan Parliaments, the representative of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, university presidents, as well as a large number of academics, faculty members, and students.
The proceedings began with a moment of silence in honor of the souls of the fallen martyrs. This was followed by the keynote address of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, delivered by Professor Dr. Hoshyar Abdullah Aziz, President of Sulaymaniyah Polytechnic University.
“Innovators of the Future” represents a leading joint initiative at the national level, providing a platform for creative ideas and pioneering projects. After a rigorous selection process that reviewed approximately 500 initial submissions, 50 projects were ultimately selected to be showcased and matched with potential sponsors.
The primary objective of the event is to highlight the creativity and ingenuity of youth and students in the fields of innovation and technology. Additionally, it aims to establish a strong link between the academic sector and the labor market.
Throughout the event, speakers emphasized the vital importance of supporting scientific and innovative projects as a key step toward building a more prosperous future for the Kurdistan Region. The organizers noted that cooperation between public and private universities, together with student organizations, represents a “golden opportunity” to discover hidden talents and empower them to become leaders of change and innovation.
The event also featured a series of scientific panel discussions, along with a specialized exhibition showcasing the participants’ innovative projects.
