Message from the Presidency of Sulaimani Polytechnic University** Dedicated to the anniversary of the chemical bombardment of Halabja.

On the anniversary of the chemical bombardment of Halabja, we solemnly honor the memory of all the martyrs who fell victim to the Ba’ath regime on March 16, 1988. On this tragic day, 5,000 innocent civilians were martyred using chemical weapons, and hundreds of others were injured, displaced, or left homeless.

The atrocities committed by the Ba’ath regime have profoundly affected the land, water, environment, and the very essence of life in the area.

Even after 37 years, the consequences of this crime continue to linger over the city and its inhabitants.

On this sorrowful occasion, we extend our deepest respect and sympathy to all the victims of this crime on March 16th. As the Sulaimani Polytechnic University, we consider it our duty to serve the higher education process in the city. Through both the Halabja Technical College and the Halabja Technical Institute, we strive to fulfill part of our responsibilities towards preserving the memory of this resilient city.
