Sulaimani Polytechnic University is Actively Participating in the Second Annual Next Step Exhibition

With the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, Sulaimani Governor and Prof. Dr. Hoshyar Abdullah Aziz, President of Sulaimani Polytechnic University and a number of Presidents, teachers and students, the Next Step exhibition began its works in Sulaimani city.

After a few moments of silence for the souls of the martyrs, Avin Mohammed Qadir, Secretary General of the annual exhibition of Next Step, delivered a welcoming speech; “at Next Step, we are committed to encourage and guide students towards success, not only academically but in shaping a more literate community”.

Then Dr. Khatab Ahmad Mustafa, Chairman of the Higher Admission Committee of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research read out the speech of the Minister of Higher Education, which said: “We would like to thank the organizers of this exhibition for being able to continue this exhibition for another year, through which they will provide a great service to the 12th grade graduates”.

After that, Dr. Haval Abubakr, the Governor of Sulaimani mentioned that “The next step is to gather skills and experiences to get to know each other and to set the program for today and the future, which is a great and important task”.

Then in an open discussion, Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani talked about several aspects of the development of education and higher education: “We should pay more attention to vocational education because vocational education is the backbone of the economy. They provide the most job opportunities, so I have personally paid a lot of attention to them and helped hundreds of young people to be proud of their profession and expand their businesses.” In another part of his speech, Qubad Talabani told the successful students “You will go to university, which means that a new stage of your life will begin, and you must work harder than ever. Know that university is not the last stop, but only a bridge to start your future life”.

In the first day of the exhibition, a panel entitled (Situation of Public Universities in Improving the Quality of Education) was held. Prof. Dr. Hoshyar Abdullah, President of Sulaimani Polytechnic University, participated in a discussion on “Technical Education and its Problems in Polytechnic Universities in the Kurdistan Region” with Prof. Dr. Payman Ramazan, President of Raparin University; Asst. Prof. Dr. Halat Rashid, President of Charmo University; Prof. Dr. Aras Fariq, President of Garmian University.

In the discussion, the president of Sulaimani Polytechnic University said that “Polytechnic universities are working to create students for the labor market; this is achieved by combining education and practical aspects. Our students lack soft skills and cannot adapt to the workplace after university and need to develop skills.”

Next Step exhibition will continue from September 22 to 24, 2024 at Sulaimani Cultural Factory.

The exhibition will be attended by 40 public and private universities, institutes and private sector companies. In order to serve more science and students, so that they can help graduates of grade (12) high school to choose a better future.
