On July 29, 2026, in Baghdad, a distinguished delegation from Sulaimani Polytechnic University (SPU), headed by President Prof. Dr. Hoshyar Abdullah Aziz and Director of International Relations Asst. Prof. Dr. Awder Mohammed Ahmed, participated in a specialized workshop focused on launching sectoral policies and implementation plans for integrating green and digital competencies into Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET3) programs and institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop formed part of the “Green and Digital TVET for Enhancing Employability in Iraq (TVET III)” project, funded by the European Union. Representatives from Sulaimani Polytechnic University, Erbil Polytechnic University, and Duhok Polytechnic University from the Kurdistan Region, along with all other polytechnic universities across Iraq, participated in the event. The project is implemented by the UNESCO Iraq Office in partnership with the European Union and in coordination with the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Education, Labor and Social Affairs, and Planning of both the Federal Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the workshop, five sectoral policies were launched, and the implementation plans of the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research in both the federal and regional governments were reviewed. The sessions also featured the presentation of labor market survey results, which highlighted current and future market requirements and emphasized the importance of aligning educational curricula with the demands of a green and digital economy. The workshop also included discussions on draft implementation plans tailored for designated technical institutes, colleges, and vocational schools, based on the policy of integrating green and digital skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Dr. Hoshyar Abdullah Aziz emphasized that developing green and digital skills is a fundamental pillar for upgrading the quality of technical education and ensuring graduates are well prepared to meet the labor market demands. He asserted the importance of modernizing curricula, fostering the professional development of academic staff, and strengthening partnerships with the private sector to ensure technical education remains aligned with contemporary development needs. In the same context, Asst. Prof. Dr. Awder Mohammed Ahmed highlighted the importance of bolstering cooperation between universities, ministries, and international partners to ensure the effective implementation of these policies and action plans. He noted that such collaboration is essential for achieving a sustainable impact on the advancement of technical and vocational education and training. Additionally, he highlighted the significance of incorporating the perspectives and feedback of students and alumni when defining the project\u2019s core objectives<\/p>\n\n\n\n
