Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Calls for Polytechnic Universities to Be Closer To the Community and Implement Programs in Cooperation with International Partners

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Kurdistan Dr.Youssif Goran emphasized on the importance of technical education and its role in the preparation of qualified scientific cadres that meet the needs of the sectors of labor and production and the labor market and provide them with the skills required to be able to rely on themselves and serve the community, calling for the curricula of the polytechnic universities and programs are different from the usual counterparts and seek to implement them in cooperation with international partners .
This came during the meeting of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research with the Presidents of the Kurdistan Polytechnic Universities (Erbil, Sulaimani and Dohuk), on July 17, 2017, presidency of Erbil Polytechnic University to discuss ways to promote technical education in the region in the presence of ministry advisor Dr. Amang Abdullah Saeed, Director General of the Planning and Follow-up Departments, Dr. Mohammed Saber, Engineering and Projects, Dr. David Atrucci as well as the presidents of the three Polytechnic universities

The minister said technical and vocational education is of great importance not only in the Kurdistan Region, but also in the whole world for his role in preparing the cadres needed by the communities, the labor market and the implementation of development programs, noting that the KRG attaches special importance to technical and vocational education and is one of its priorities and programs for economic reform.
He added that the new reality necessitates keeping pace with global developments and improving the role of higher education in general and technical in particular,” noting that “it is time to change the perception of the role of higher education, which present annually about forty thousand graduates to the labor market.
The minister said, Universities should not continue to grant certificates to graduates without providing them with the necessary skills and expertise to enable them to rely on themselves and meet the requirements of the labor market and community service, stressing the importance of the role of technical universities in creating the required manpower for the labor and production sectors
The minister urged technical universities to adopt different study curricula and training programs than those applied by their regular counterparts and have their specificity which is appropriate to their role and mission in preparing scientific and technical staff qualified to meet the needs of the labor market and responding to its requirements, He called on them to implement ambitious programs in cooperation with partners International countries.
For their part, the president of Sulaimani Polytechnic University, Dr. Alan Faraidoon Ali Amin, Erbil Polytechnic University, Dr. Kawa Sherwani, and Duhok Polytechnic University, Dr.Adnan Mohsen, expressed their views and suggestions on ways to enhance the status of polytechnic universities and to face the problems and challenges facing their work.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr.Yousif Goran asked the presidents of the Universities to unify their proposals and visions and submitted to the Ministry for consideration and approval.
