Sulaimani Polytechnic University promotes cooperation with five Turkish and six Cypriot Universities

The presidents of the SPU and five universities of Turkey and the sixth Cyprus stressed the need to cooperate in various fields of science and training to promote their common interest, and to strengthen the friendly relations between the people of Kurdistan and the Turkish and Cypriot peoples.

The workshop was organized by the Sulaimani Polytechnic University on Saturday July 8, 2017 at the conference hall of the Titanic Hotel, under the slogan “Cooperation of universities progressing academically” with the participation of five Turkish universities: FIRAT, Bingöl and SIIRT, Yüzüncü Yıl and Harran as well as the University of CIU Cyprus, in the presence of the President of the SPU, Assist Prof Dr. Alan Faraidun Ali , and both vice president for scientific and administrative affairs of the University ,Dr. Soran Saeed and Dr. Dana Ahmed, and both Deans of the Technical College of Administration Dr. Hakim Othman and Dean of sulaimani Technical Institute Dr. Kathem Faraj Aref, the Director of Public Relations and Academic Affairs at the University ,Dr. Bakhtiar Obed Sharif, and a group of specialists at the university

The President of the SPU expressed his happiness to the visit of the delegation and convey greetings of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Kurdistan , He also stressed the importance of “continuing efforts to strengthen relations of mutual cooperation, establish scientific, research and training activities, share experiences and visits, and including the university employees in the programs that will be implemented by the Turkish universities for the benefit of all and promote friendly relations and cooperation between the people of Kurdistan and the people of Turkey and Cyprus.”

Dr.Alan said that the university is keen to “establish the best relations with scientific and global institutions locally and internationally to secure more educational and training opportunities for its members and to ensure its progress.” He pointed out that “so far managed to conclude about 50 memorandums of understanding or cooperation with local, regional and global counterparts.”

For his part, Vice President for Scientific Affairs Dr, Soran Said presented a summery on SPU and its composition and achievements, reviewing the University’s current and future programs.
The members of the university delegation expressed their happiness to visit the Kurdistan Region and their admiration for the progress and development in all fields, especially higher education, expressing their desire to strengthen relations with the universities in Kurdistan in general and Sulaimani Polytechnic University in particular, and support the workshop included the exchange of ideas and proposals on ways to strengthen and expand the horizons of joint cooperation and the importance of including members of the SPU in Turkish higher education programs (including the Maulana program).

At the conclusion of the workshop, the President of the SPU presented the University’s logo and gifts of appreciation to the members of the delegation, who, in turn, gave their slogans to their universities.
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Alan visited Turkey and Turkish Cyprus in mid-May 2017, concluded memorandums of understanding with four universities: Yüzüncü Yıl, FIRAT, Bingöl and SIIRT, and another with the CIU University, which includes exchange of experiences, visits and scientific conferences and workshops. Joint research and training opportunities for faculty, staff and students, as well as students of the SPU at the Maulana Turkish Academic Exchange Program, funded by the Turkish Higher Education Council and the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
