SPU Calls Kurdistan Parliament For Supporting Higher Education Sector To Keep Pace With The Growing Needs Of The Community

President of the SPU Dr.Alan F. Ali received representatives of the Commission of Higher Education in the Kurdistan Parliament, MPs Dr. Sherko Hama Amin and Riwas Faik, on Thursday, ninth of July 2015, in the presidency of the University.

During the meeting, Dr.Alan praised Kurdistan Parliament interest in supporting local universities to develop through providing the appropriate atmosphere for the process of the development besides he stressed on the further needs of higher education and scientific research for more support to be able to keep up with the growing needs of the Kurdish community and contribute to the upgrading of own reality.

Dr.Alan, also talked about the activities of the university, colleges and institutes affiliated, referring to the implementation of 30 symposiums in different aspects relevant directly to society, in the fields of (Media, Water, Oil and Economy) also signing of 15 memorandums of understanding with local and international scientific and academic institutions, to find a foothold in the global academic map.

On the other hand the representatives of the Kurdistan Parliament said that the object of their visit to the university is to be aware of the difficulties and obstacles that face the university and the budget required for the expenses of the higher education and the universities in general.

During which Dr.Alan briefed to the representatives of the Kurdistan parliament the project of building of more than a thousand housing units for the staff and university professors, after getting the approval of council of ministers, and the implementation of the project will be through a referendum on the area, quality, type of the building that will be conducted by the university staff and professors.

Finally both sides agreed on forming a committee from the university to visit the parliament to discuss and exchange information on the needs of the university and the required budget and organizing expenditure process.
